Does anyone know how I can rig up a grass catcher for mid mount mower on my bx2200, without spending an arm and a leg? Have about 3 acres to cut. Thanks

You might as well get a hay baler! That's going to be a lot of clippings. But seriously, the only "cheap" method I could think of is to use an inexpensive tow-behind leaf sweeper (the ground driven type). You'd have to fabricate an offset draw bar to position the leaf sweeper to the far right to collect the clippings from the side discharge. Of course, this wouldn't work well in a congested area. ....

Just curious why do you want to pick up the clippings? I have been mowing for years without pickup, the only nuisance is if the kids walk on it the next day with dew on it they drag the clippings in the house. Other than that I have not seen an advantage to picking up the clippings. ....

The reason for picking the clippings is that when I don't mow for a while or in areas that grow thicker than others, the discharge just blows me a nice thick layer of clippings that cover the lawn. If I cut every week so that the clippings were short this probably not be an issue...but then all I would be doing is cutting grass.
Also, I like to put them around the plants and between rows in the garden to keep back the weeds and hold in moisture.
Hence, the desire to get away with something cheap. The best thing I've found so far, is to cut in a pattern that blows the new clippings continuous on top of the previous clippings - clockwise in a circle discharging towards the inside. When the pile gets big enough I can scrape up a bucket full with the FEL. not very efficient, but it kinda works. ....

Back at the farm I use several different lawntractors instead of a SUB-COMPACT CUT. If you mow every 5 days in the spring you won't need to pickup clippings. If you have several mowers, everybody gets to drive one and the job is done in no time at all. One lawntractor has a bagger for use around the house so the clippings aren't dragged inside. The pull behind lawn sweeper works but that's allot of grass. Then what do you do with the clippings. If you pile them for burning and it rains you are screwed because soon it will a rotting mess. Otherwise you need to keep a half acre section of garden open to till the grass into. Most of the lawn sweepers are made real cheap and the plastic wheels, etc. will break only lasting a couple of seasons. Baggers that work on the velocity of the grass coming out of the deck generally plug up with green wet grass. If you want to do it, you need a pull behind trailer unit with separate motor and sucker attachment. ....

If you are having trouble with windrowing then what ever you do it muct be a powered unit to do the job. Natureally if it won't blow it out well enough to not windrow it won't ever get to a collection system that is a couple of foot higher and to the rear. My favorite is a tow behind with it's own engine. That way if you replace the tractor yu only have to buy a new boot to attach to your new tractor. ....

As far as windrowing goes I have found with my Kubota MMM that it is more prone to windrow because of the deflector then anything else, cuting more often helps but does not cure it.
I have found that tying the deflector up even a small amount completely eliminates the windrow problem. The Kubota deck is pretty impressive, with the deflector down and the windrows its looks like the grass was cut for haying, no mulching action that I can see. I guess if you want mulching that's not so hot, but I don't want mulching to me that just leads to clumps.
You have to be more careful obviously without the deflector, it seems that all the landscapers with their zero radius mowers mow without any deflector as well. ....

My factory catcher/vac does such a nice job that do not regret the $$. Leaves, pine needles, grass clippings are all picked up without a problem.
I helped a neighbor who rented a thatcher this spring at his place, he thatched and I followed and vacuumed it up. I was very impressed by the amount of suction created by the unit. He doesn't pic the clippings, and was surprised at the amount that we took off his yard. His yard looks beautiful now for having done this. ....
